On June 27th, Frankie Cosmos will release their latest long player, Different Talking, available on CD/LP/DSPs worldwide from Sub Pop.
 
Different Talking, the sixth and, so far, best album by NYC indie-rock four-piece Frankie Cosmos, seems to exist across time and space, as we all kind of do. It’s a collection of fragments and memories, remembered places, and reinterpreted feelings that adds up to a lucent, humming whole: a sturdy, worldly indie-rock record about aging and the passage of time that nonetheless manages to feel sharply current.
 
The current configuration of Frankie Cosmos features Greta Kline, Alex Bailey, Katie Von Schleicher, and Hugo Stanley. Kline is the only constant, but Stanley, Bailey, and Von Schleicher are crucial collaborators, and to use the names “Greta Kline” and “Frankie Cosmos” interchangeably would be incorrect. Kline remains the primary songwriter, and the music on Different Talking is arranged by the band as a whole, but this is the first album to be self-tracked by the unit with no external studio producers.
 
Lyrically, Different Talking may be some of Kline’s most insular work, but musically, it’s the most varied and richly textured Frankie Cosmos album, filled with country-fried noodling and tassels of synth and imposing walls of sound. “We’d go to any length to get Greta’s songs right, and she’s generous with songs, so we have a lot of freedom to arrange them,” says Katie Von Schleicher. “It’s a rare talent to have, with rare freedom given, and the course hasn’t changed.”
 
Lead single “Vanity” exemplifies a perfectionist’s approach to production and songwriting: Von Schleicher correctly describes it as “a fucking pop anthem,” but does a pop anthem ever contain this much attention to detail? “Vanity” is spare and busy at the same time, its second-album-Strokes chorus blossoming between passages of minimalist curiosity that recall the earliest Frankie Cosmos tapes. It’s one of the songs on Different Talking that doesn’t have a clear object, perhaps a result of its genesis: “I started writing it one evening while I walked (~6.5 miles) from Tompkins Square Park to Sunset Park, speaking directly to the universe and pleading to be considered by it,” says Kline. “It feels like it encompasses this push and pull between adult and kid, government and governed, planet and blade of grass.”

Frankie Cosmos lead singer, guitarist, and songwriter Greta Kline has long been heralded as one of contemporary indie music’s most deft and most necessary writers, but on Different Talking, her lyrics soften out slightly, the wry cynicism that defined recent records now giving way to an acknowledgment of the awesome, and necessary, fallibility of the human brain and heart.
 
To classify Different Talking as a return to form, or at least a return to the lush directness of earlier Frankie Cosmos records, would be rude but also wholly incorrect: as Different Talking makes clear, you can never return to the comfort and bravery of your early twenties, but that person always kind of lives inside you, no matter how much you change. Different Talking is about finding that person, honoring them, and learning from them. “A lot of the album is about being grown up and figuring out how to know yourself – like, ‘What is moving on?’” says Kline. “How do we move on when we’re addicted to a cycle of haunting our own past? Writing songs is just the way through that.”
 
Kline has been a fixture of the American indie underground since her late teens when her prolific Bandcamp releases and 2014 indie-label debut Zentropy led her to be dubbed “the poet laureate of New York City DIY.” A tag like that is a lot for young shoulders to take on, but it’s hard to deny the singular influence she has had on contemporary pop music. If the idea of a young woman picking up a synth in her bedroom, putting a couple of songs on the internet, and quickly becoming a superstar is now de rigeur, it’s because Kline – along with a handful of other artists and writers – normalized and exalted ideas of (female) DIY genius long before they were pinned to moodboards in major-label marketing offices (read full bio at Sub Pop).

Father John Misty is announcing new US headlining shows for September 2025 in support of Mahashmashana. The new dates begin Sunday, September 14th in Denver, CO at The Mission Ballroom and end Thursday, October 2nd in Fayetteville, AR at JJ’s Live. Support for these dates will come from Jagjaguwar Records act Cut Worms. Fan presales begin Wednesday, April 9th at 10 am (local; password HONEYBEAR) with tickets on sale to the general public on Friday, April 11th at 10 am (local).

Father John Misty’s sold-out UK/EU Spring 2025 headlining run continues tonight, Tuesday, April 8th in Paris, FR at La Cigale and runs through Tuesday, April 15th in London, UK at Royal Albert Hall. 

Of his recent sold-out Kings and Beacon Theatre shows in New York this past February, Brooklyn Vegan raved, “Tillman is a master showman, working the stage, throwing shapes, and dancing, much to the delight of the crowd.” Meanwhile, the New York Times “The Amplifier” newsletter included his “Beacon Theatre” show in their “Favorite concerts” of the winter, saying Father John Misty is “a sharp satirist who knows exactly when to get unexpectedly sincere.” Finally, USA Today noted this charming assessment of his set from Kings Theatre attendees, “Fans gush over Father John Misty: ‘I never understood why people joined cults then I saw him live.’”

Recently, Father John Misty performed a sweet and tender unreleased song titled “The Dead Mouse One” on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert (See February 27th performance). The track first appeared on a bootleg of his solo performance Live at the Sunset Cultural Center, Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA on December 13th, 2023. 

Today, New York City-based musician/producer Yuno is sharing the official video for “Massive,” a new single from Blest, his forthcoming full-length debut album, out Friday, May 16th, 2025, worldwide from Sub Pop.

For the new album, Yuno welcomed collaborators like Patrick Wimberly of Chairlift, who lends his sparkle to the fuzz-rock saunter of “Massive.” Yuno says of the visual, in which he stars and directs, “Someone told me this video looks like 2 a.m. childhood nightmare fuel about existential dread. I couldn’t agree more.”

Yuno has also announced headline shows in support of Blest beginning Wednesday, June 18th in Cambridge, MA at Middle East Upstairs,  a hometown album release show on Thursday, June 19th at Brooklyn, NY’s Baby’s All Right, and Friday, June 20th in Washington, DC at DC9. These shows are on sale now.
 

 
All songs on Blest were written and performed by Yuno, co-produced by Yuno and Frank Corr, who also contributed keyboards, drums, and guitar throughout the record. The album also features additional production and instrumentation by Patrick Wimberly (“True,” “Massive”) at The CRC in Brooklyn, and Nick Sanborn at Betty’s in Durham, NC (“True”). Blest was mixed by Steve Vealey and mastered by Joe La Porta.

Greek artist Σtella’s (pronounced Stella) mesmerizing new record, Adagio, is available worldwide today, April 4th, from Sub Pop. The album features the previously released singles “Adagio”, “Omorfo Mou” , “Baby Brazil” (Feat. Las Palabras,”  and today’s official video for “80 Days” which was Directed and Animated by Io Papadatou.
 
Σtella has expanded her UK and EU tour, with SOLD OUT shows beginning on April 07 through April 18th. The newly announced run of shows will begin October 1st in Amsterdam, NL, and run through October 19th in Manchester, UK. See below for a complete list of shows.

 
Adagio is a pop record that feels like a warm blanket; it swaddles its listeners with nylon-string guitars, featherlight percussion, psychedelic keyboards, and staccato drums. Written and recorded over the span of five years with a consortium of international collaborators, including !!!’s Rafael Cohen and British songwriter Gabriel Stebbing, Adagio is a 27-minute meditation on love and desire, rest, and time. The album was produced by Σtella and mixed by Edmund Irwin-Singer. Though the bulk of it is sung in English, as all her records have been, Σtella also delivers her first two songs in Greek, “Omorfo Mou,” and a cover of a 1969 cult classic of the Greek New Wave, Litsa Sakelariou’s “Ta Vimata.”
